when hunger strikes

Being prepared is one of the most important aspects of  successfully losing weight and changing your eating habits.  If you are not prepared for hunger you are setting yourself up to fail.  Don’t leave the house without a healthy snack in tow.  For example:   you are at work with nothing healthy to eat on hand,  chances are  you will get hungry and you will eat whatever is in the vending machine or break room.  Not if you are prepared! Take a little bit of time to look at your calendar and figure out a day each week that you can dedicate an hour to for grocery shopping.  Pick another day that you can spend some time in the kitchen preparing a couple of meals for the week to come.  I usually go to the grocery store and come home and cook a couple of dishes that will stay good in the fridge for a couple of days.   I also buy frozen bags of fish at Costco that are super easy to prepare, not to mention way more affordable than the bags of fish at HEB. I love HEB, but Costco rocks too 🙂   The frozen fish is something I can come home from work and have ready in 30 minutes or less.  To thaw, all I do is fill up the sink with cold water, throw’em in and about 15 minutes later they are ready to bake! Pack a lunch or at least a “snack” bag with you when you go to work or even if you know you are just going to be out of the house for a while . If I am going to be out running errands   I will pack my  insulated lunch bag with a yogurt and some nuts or a piece of fruit and cheese~ portable foods that are easy to eat in the car(I am a big nerd for this i know, but it really saves calories and money!)  That way, I am not out and about and starving enough to pull through Starbucks or something.  The key is to have a plethora of portable foods and snacks at your house that you can grab and take with you.  I also prepare some breakfast foods in advance.  Like,  Bob’s Redmill 8 Grain Cereal. I will make a batch of that on  a Sunday and eat it through Tuesday or  Wednesday.  Sometimes I will boil a couple of eggs at the beginning of the week to be able to take on the go.  I never leave the house without my water bottle either.  When we go on road trips I pack a cooler of healthy foods to snack on on the trip and to have when we arrive at our destination.  Not everyone eats healthy and you can expect your friends or family to buy special food items for your visit 🙂 Last time we went on a road trip I bought a couple of meals from MY Fit Foods and that worked out great.  We stopped at convenient stores to heat them up on the road.  Again, it saved us time, money and calories! Other good things to pack on road trips are: nut butters(Almond, walnut, cashew or peanut) English Muffins, carrots, celery, hummus and pita bread or chips, yogurt and raw nuts, any fruit and water!
